Pixar's Next Film Introduces Avatar-Style Story featuring Nature's Engineers

Pixar has released the trailer for its upcoming animated feature, Hoppers, which presents a premise that is both unusual and delightful.

Storyline Summary

The Hoppers Adventure revolves around Mabel Tanaka (played by Piper Curda), a teenage animal admirer who develops the power to understand wildlife thanks to experimenting with some Avatar-like-inspired device created by one of her college professors.

“The conventional methods to comprehend animals just were ineffective,” notes a scientists that designed the consciousness-transfer system.

The Way Hoppers Works

Called “The Hoppers Device,” the invention basically operates similar to the mind-link system seen in James Cameron's Avatar series movies, but with one small caveat: Instead of waking up as a giant blue alien, Mabel's consciousness is transferred into a mechanical animal form. In particular, a synthetic beaver-form.

Conflict and Cast

Much like Avatar's main character Jake, Mabel soon finds herself immersing herself with the denizens of the wildlife world, accidentally sparking an animal rebellion led by a regal butterfly (voiced by Meryl Streep) and the leader of the beaver community (Bobby Moynihan), who are set to “defeat the humans.”

At one point, villain Mayor Jerry (Jon Hamm) is locked in his car by two beavers and a lizard, who then go on to threaten him using his phone's speech synthesis function.

Premiere Information

Hoppers debuts in cinemas on March 6.
