Hospitals in Gaza have said that Israeli strikes killed at least 12 Palestinians on the weekend, marking one of the deadliest incidents following a fall truce deal designed to halting the conflict.
Details of the Attacks
Ordnance struck sites in northern and southern Gaza, including an apartment building in Gaza City and a tent in Khan Younis, according to officials at hospitals that received the victims. The casualties included two women and six children from two families.
Israeli planes carried out additional attacks, with forces issuing an alert to leave for a building in Khan Younis, ahead of an assault.
Mounting Toll Amid Truce Efforts
These attacks occurred a day before a passage point was slated to reopen in Gaza’s south, a stark indication that the fatalities is continuing to climb while a truce deal slowly progresses.
All of the territory’s entry points have been shut since the onset of the war, and residents view the Rafah passage with Egypt as a crucial conduit for the tens of thousands requiring medical care outside the territory as most of its healthcare system has been destroyed by aerial assaults.
Authorities aim to guarantee that more Palestinians leave Gaza than enter it, according to reports, which indicated the goal is to allow only a limited number into Gaza through Rafah daily.
Hospital Reports
Shifa hospital said an Israel’s strike on Gaza City fatally wounded a woman, three children and one of their family members on Saturday morning. Separately, Nasser hospital said a hit in a makeshift settlement sparked a blaze, killing seven, among them a man, his three children and three grandchildren.
Gaza’s health ministry have recorded more than 500 Palestinians dead from Israeli fire since the beginning of the truce on 10 October.
The armed forces did not immediately respond to inquiries about the strikes.
Truce Deal and Proposed Vision
In spite of repeated lethal incidents involving Palestinians in violation of the autumn truce, the agreement has entered a crucial next stage. Some of the thorniest issues are part of this phase, which would require the governing authority to disarm and transfer power to a newly-appointed peace administration body.
A recent presentation showed a plan for “rebuilding the territory”, complete with modern towers and corniches along the Mediterranean.
Context of Destruction
The vast majority of the territory has been flattened and basic infrastructure remains inoperable as a result of Israeli bombing over the recent period, which has also resulted in the deaths of more than seventy thousand people. Last year, a UN commission of inquiry determined that Israel had committed a crime against humanity in Gaza.
